Musically Insulting highlights musical opinion in the 17th and 18th centuries. Many treatises were written during this time period, famous ones being by Mozart's father Leopold, and Bach's son C.P.E Bach. These treatises not only explained how to play musical instruments correctly and in the proper style, but they often became platforms for the author's own opinions about the material as well. These opinions differed greatly and were often quite strongly opposed. This concert will, in humorous fashion, present excepts from this literature that range from innocuous to scathing. Live demonstrations by the on-stage ensemble will illustrate the concepts, and the program will include full-length pieces as well. This will be a lively performance that delivers some serious history while making you laugh!
