Bach Magnificat

Hear some of Bach's most glorious, poetic and exciting music, with the amazing singers of Caelis, a lineup of talented soloists and an orchestra of period instruments, in the beautiful acoustics of Southminster United Church.

Israel in Egypt

Friday February 8, 2019 - 7:30pm

Known as Handel's second most famous choral work (after the Messiah), this oratorio is replete with vivid imagery, dramatic choral textures and word painting. Its gripping story will keep you on the edge of your seat, from the plagues of Egypt and the parting of the Red Sea, to Handel’s final triumphant anthem.

Consolation and Celebration

Saturday March 23, 2019 - 7:30pm

Experience the depth and intensity of early German Baroque music with cantatas from composers that J.S. Bach himself admired and revered, such as Buxtehude, Schütz and Bruhns.

Featuring rising star soprano Bronwyn Thies-Thompson, an Ottawa native whose inspired and highly praised musicianship is sought after throughout the Canadian early music scene.

THEATRICAL CONCERT

Isaac Newton was known as the greatest intellectual mind of his time. In 1696, a British government on the brink of bankruptcy called upon him on matters of national importance: put an end to rampant coin counterfeiting and solve the country's crippling financial crisis!

Follow Newton, then Warden of the Royal Mint, as he pursues William Chaloner, one of the most infamous - and brilliant - counterfeiters of all time.
